Meetings
We all have them. Some are great. Others, well, they could be better.
Signal vs. Noise has had a series of posts (well, if two makes a “series”) on meetings. The first one Meetings Considered Harmful mentioned a U of M study that basically said that organizations with lots of meetings tend to also have a lot of negative employee effects.
Makes complete sense to me. I find my worth within an organization by the amount of innovation and “cool stuff” I can put together for the company. Meetings, for the most part, get in the way of that goal…

First post from a Mac
This is the first post I’m writing from a Mac… at least this year.
So far, the dual G5 is working as expected… that is very fast.
PowerBook arrives tomorrow.
Getting off the roller coaster
One of my new year’s resolutions is to simplify my life (at least a little bit).
To that end, after six years on Windows computers of various flavors… from Windows 98 to Windows XP… I’m getting off the love/hate roller coaster I’ve had with PCs.
I’m going Mac. The PowerMac G5 will be here Tuesday. The PowerBook is following on Wesnesday.
By the end of next week, hopfully 100% of my non-gaming computing will hopefully be transitioned to Mac OS X. I’ll still have a PC at home for those things you can’t do on a Mac (yet) like sync my Windows Mobile 5 smartphone and for the occasional game (FEAR, Quake4 and Call of Duty 2 are sitting in the queue).
Of course, my office computer will remain Windows for the forseeable future (probably forever at this job anyway).
