Sex & Cash
Hugh over at gapingvoid has what he calls the Sex & Cash Theory. Basically, that we all have things we want to do creatively (sex) but we still gotta pay the bills in some way (cash). In reading the comments and thinking about it, I think it makes sense. I also think happiness comes when you can get the sex & cash as close to each other as possible. For example, while I may not have a true passion for wedding photography (cash), it gives me a way to make money through something I overall love… even if my real passion is for sports (sex).
This is part of his long-ass article on How to be creative.
Thanks to James for the hookup with the link.
Sprint PPC-6700
I’m posting this from my new Pocket PC / smartphone. I got the PPC-6700 a week or so ago and other than battery life and a few bugs in Windows Mobile 5.0, it’s everything I’ve been looking for in a smartphone.
Internet Fads
Blogging, podcasts, RSS, etc… you’ve heard the buzzwords and we’re talking about them at our work too.
But Sean Carton over at Publish.com has a great article on what it takes to make these things actually work and not just be really really contrived and sort of ridiculous.
Check it out… Beware the Fads of the Future
First snow
Man, this stuff is wet.
Parts of the Denver area got socked with a helluva first snow storm. We have drifting in our yard up to about 1.5 feet.
And it was heavy shoveling work. Gawd, I love having a house sometimes… *rolls eyes*
Marketing Punk
So, James finally got around to setting up his blog. So, being the nice guy I am, I thought I’d throw a link his way and share some of my massive PR3.
Without further ado, here’s Marketing Punk.
Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Another week, another wedding…
So, a guy I do some backup photog work for just called and asked me to play second-shooter for a wedding this weekend. Being generally quite greedy and loving to beef up the ol’ portfolio I accepted. Hey, it’s several hundred bucks for a few hours of my time. Basement project be damned.
I’m also shooting our CEO’s family Tuesday (if the weather isn’t as crizzappy as it seems to look like it’s gonna be).
Clients are good.
Ya know, I think sometimes I need to just delve into the photography thing full time. Not sure if I’m ready for the “own your own business” world though. We’ll see.
Can we get drywall up already?
Okay, I’m officially sick of wire.
I’m about ready for things with the basement to take off. I want drywall up so I can do the fun stuff and start to see some real progress being made. I mean, it’s cool to see the framework and wiring take shape, but I’m tired of that already.
It should be ready for the inspections on Wednesday. Hopefully those will go well and I can schedule drywallers for the weekend. Then I have to get the damn counter top ordered. It takes three weeks to come in. Then while we’re waiting for the countertop to come in we can finish the flooring, paint, trimwork, finish electrical and put all the plumbing fixtures in. Good times to be had by all.
Overall, this project’s been a pain in my ass, but I’m glad I did it. I’ve now become a master with a nailgun and miter saw.
